Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori have called on youths, particularly those of Anioma extraction, to leverage information, knowledge and communication as tools for promoting unity and driving development across the region.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, who also chaired the occasion, made the call at the 2nd Youth Summit of the Progressive Anioma Youth Association (PAYA) held in Asaba.
He commended PAYA for creating a platform where young people could come together to discuss issues affecting their future and the development of their communities.
The Governor noted that information had become a critical resource in the modern world and urged youths to use it responsibly by shunning misinformation, rumours and narratives capable of creating division among communities.
He also encouraged the youths to acquire relevant skills, engage positively with government and other stakeholders, and play active roles in the development of Anioma, Delta State and Nigeria.
Oborevwori congratulated the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on his investiture as Grand Patron of PAYA, describing the recognition as deserving in view of his contributions, experience and service to Delta State and Nigeria.
He urged Anioma youths to build bridges across communities and work together for the common good, stressing that their participation and voices would be instrumental in shaping the future of Anioma and the state.
In his remarks, the National Coordinator and Convener of PAYA, Chief Mayor Enujeko, said the association remained committed to building a united, purposeful and progressive youth movement capable of contributing to the socio-economic advancement of Anioma.
Enujeko described information as a powerful instrument for youth empowerment, urging Anioma youths not only to seek knowledge but to convert it into opportunities, innovation and sustainable development.
He said PAYA was designed to nurture an informed and united generation of Anioma youths who would grow into responsible leaders and make meaningful contributions to the region.
In his acceptance speech, the former Delta State Governor and Grand Patron of PAYA, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, urged Anioma youths to deploy their talents, knowledge and skills towards building a stronger Anioma, Delta State and Nigeria.
Okowa said the future of Anioma would largely depend on the younger generation remaining purposeful, responsible and committed to positive change.
He encouraged the youths to support one another, work collectively and use their strength to promote peace, progress and sustainable development throughout the region.
The former governor also commended PAYA for providing a platform that promotes unity among Anioma youths and encourages their active participation in the development of the region.
The summit featured the investiture of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as Grand Patron of PAYA, alongside the presentation of awards to outstanding and high-performing Executive Chairmen across Anioma.
