The Executive Secretary of Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam has described Pilgrimage as a veritable tool for national prayer retreat in the holy land.
Pam made this known when he paid a visit to President Bola TInubu at the State House in Abuja recently.
He said pilgrims before the previous election, had through the spiritual exercise interceded for the country in the holy land for a hitch free general election.
The Executive Secretary said the Commission has used its platform to engender peace across the country, considering the fact that without peace there would be no meaningful development anywhere in the world.
Rev Pam, while intimating the President of activities and mandate of the only apex Christian faith based Agency of government in Nigeria, said the Commission in its statutory mandate has supervised , coordinated, licenced and regulated Christian pilgrimage activities in Nigeria.
He also informed the President of the Commission’s pilgrimage activities and programmes in Israel, Rome, Jordan and Greece.
The Executive Secretary while congratulating TInubu for his successful inauguration as the 16th President of country, commended the support and cooperation the Commission had enjoyed over the years .
He solicited the cooperation of the Federal Government in creating the enabling environment for pilgrimage activities to thrive in Nigeria, adding that it was prayer the has kept the country together.
Rev Pam also informed the President of the preparedness of the Commission to complete the 2023 Easter pilgrimage exercise to Israel and Jordan which was temporarily put on hold due to operational reasons.
Consequently, he told Mr President that about 1000 intending pilgrims were on ground for the commencement of the Easter pilgrimage exercise which would hopefully kick start on September 18 with the airlift of intending pilgrims from Lagos State and would be followed by intending pilgrims from Bayelsa, Imo, FCT as well as self sponsored Pilgrims.
Responding, President TInubu acknowledged the good work Rev Pam had been doing in NCPC, especially his efforts at repositioning the Commission by making Christian pilgrimage more spiritual and developmental.
He urged him to be focused at all times, while pledging his support for the Commission.
