OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori.
“Save Oleh Community From Imminent Danger.”
Your Excellency Sir,
It is expedient I wish you a Merry Christmas as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ our Savior. Your Excellency, your person and government is likened to that of King David who was despised and underrated, yet loved by God and was made a king.
Your Excellency, again, you have been blackmailed ab initio, right from when you appeared in the political scene from primary election till date, wherein you emerged after a tough political fight. As a result of the foregoing, it is critical you watch or jealously guide against any of your appointees’ desperation to soil your name or use government paraphernalia to oppress the poor and/or arm-twist the extant laws of the State for mundane and unacceptable reasons.
However, the exigency of the issue in reference is the reason for this open letter. Mr. Governor, the President General of Oleh Community Development Union, Chief Believe Alakri, whose tenure would expire 31st day of December, 2023, has wilfully breached a large section of the Oleh constitution, with respect to powers to hold the Annual General Conference, and also failed to comply with the Delta State Regulation of Community Development Association Law, 2021. The underlisted are some of his excesses as well as violations that smacks of the present legal intrigues;
1. The President General, Chief Believe Alakri, has lopsidedly appointed his cousin, Surveyor Thomas Onaimor as the Chairman, Oleh Electoral Committee, his closed ally, Hon. Evans Egbo, Secretary and other members without recourse to equity and traditional spread, thereby breaching our constitution.
2. The President General, Chief Believe Alakri, has recklessly breached section 6:2, of Oleh Constitution, which states that notice of meeting shall be given in such a manner as to allow for a period of at least one month or 30days to the conference.
3. Your Excellency, the President General, Chief Believe Alakri, has contravened section 9 (ii) & (III) of the Delta State Regulation of Community Development Association Law, 2021, which stipulates that election should be conducted three (3) months before the end of tenure of the executives.
4. The President General, Chief Believe Alakri, has boasted to alter the delegates list of streets, those eligible to vote, and as a result, five (5) traditional streets delegates list have been tampered with. This deceptive attitude of the President General is premised on the fact that he is hell-bent on producing a successor to cover his deficiency and misappropriation.
Your Excellency, the above illicit excesses of the President General are but few of his misconducts and power drunk activities. Therefore, the streets Chairmen, who felt aggrieved and shortchanged by their outright removal, and replacing them with new delegates went to Court to seek redress and an order was granted restraining the President General, his agents, privies, cronies from conducting, overseeing the conference/election pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
Mr. Governor, the degree of news making the rounds reveals that some top government appointees at the State, being influenced by a former government appointee from Oleh, are working round the clock to use government paraphernalia at ensuring the conference holds against a legitimate and legal order from a Court of competent jurisdiction.
Though the Ministry and Commissioner of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Barr. Mrs. Pat Ajudua, who regulates Community leadership activities, Commissioner of Police, and Ministry of Justice, Asaba, have been duly served the Court order, some highly placed politicians seeks to mortgage the true tenets of justice and equity.
These registered provocative immoderate indulgence displayed by the outgoing President General, Chief Believe Alakri, are predicated on fact of planting a surrogate/successor, who will cover his 5 years of ill administration, since he has openly declared he will not render any account to Oleh people as required by our constitution.
Your Excellency, It is important to note that Oleh is not a suburb but a local government headquarters. It will be a lesson in the annals of history that the Executive arm of government is in antagonistic relationship with the Judiciary, in a case likely to cause breach of the peace or acts capable of leading to intra communal crisis, which is opposite of the MORE AGENDA of your government.
Most importantly, as the Chief Security Officer of the State, it will be too dangerous if you remain silent on the account that many fingers are pointing at your powerful appointees in government house who suddenly became interlopers. We have confidence in you that you will warn your appointee (scribe) to dissociate himself from the destructive activities of the President General, Chief Believe Alakri, to save the good image you have worked hard to earn and imbibe the moral principles of governance, as it were.
Conclusively, Your Excellency, let the truth thrive. Oleh matter have no Party affiliation as we all belonged to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP ). Historically, we know you do not toy with the rule of law, so rise swiftly to the occasion. It is in this context that, we appeal to our governor to kindly call his appointee at government house Asaba to order. He must stay neutral and not allow himself coerced into a subsisting Court issue of this nature so as not to enthrone anarchy in Oleh Community. It is our honest desire that they do not drag your newly inaugurated government to the mud or disrepute. In the circumstances, let the court order be obeyed because a stitch in time saves nine and that is the honour and dignity of calling.
Thanks.
Signed:
Mr. Anthony Oleh
