The Delta State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, has declared that the group is targeting 2.7 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Delta State in the 2027 general elections.
Esewezie made the declaration while explaining the activities and objectives of the City Boy Movement, a pressure group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) established by young Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration.
According to him, the movement operates across the federation, with its primary responsibility being to engage young Nigerians, counter misinformation and negative propaganda, and educate citizens on the policies and achievements of the President.
He said the group recognised that three years was not enough to implement every aspect of the administration’s programme, stressing that its responsibility was to explain government policies to Nigerians and communicate the progress being recorded.
“Our primary responsibility is to reach out to young people and counter misinformation and negative propaganda about the President and his policies. We recognise that three years is not enough to implement every aspect of the President’s programme,” Esewezie said.
He explained that the movement’s engagement was not restricted to APC members or politically active youths, but extended to women, young people and other residents in both rural and urban communities.
He urged Nigerians to assess President Tinubu based on his policies, achievements and capacity to deliver, rather than misinformation or political propaganda.
Esewezie disclosed that the movement had established structures across the state’s local government areas, senatorial districts, federal constituencies, wards and polling units to achieve its electoral target.
“Our target is to mobilise 2.7 million votes for President Tinubu in Delta State. This is not merely a political slogan. We have structures in place at the local government, senatorial, federal constituency, state, ward and polling-unit levels,” he said.
He noted that the movement had coordinators at the ward level, while male and female coordinators were also operating at polling-unit levels to engage voters and promote understanding of the administration’s policies.
The Delta Coordinator also stressed the need for citizens to understand the relationship between federal policies and development at the state and local government levels.
He observed that while citizens often credit governors when development occurs at the state level, they sometimes blame the Federal Government when challenges arise, adding that the movement was working to promote a better understanding of the roles of the different tiers of government.
According to him, reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration have created an environment that enables governors, local government chairmen and lawmakers to deliver more effectively.
Esewezie further argued that federal reforms could indirectly support constituency-level development, noting that when federal legislators attract projects to their constituencies, the funding and economic environment created by federal policies could contribute to the implementation of such projects.
He therefore called on Nigerians to view development as a collective process involving the Federal, state and local governments, while recognising the role of the President in driving national reforms.
The City Boy Coordinator reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to expanding its grassroots mobilisation across Delta State and ensuring that more citizens understand the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
