Young people across Delta State have joined millions around the world in celebrating World Social Media Day, with renewed calls for the responsible use of digital platforms to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, education, civic engagement, and nation-building.
Speaking to youths during the commemorative dialogue in Asaba, youth development and S. D. G Advocate, Amb. Onyedikachi M. Odogwu emphasized that social media has evolved beyond a platform for entertainment into a powerful tool for leadership, advocacy, networking, and economic empowerment.
The youth development aide encouraged young people to become intentional digital ambassadors by creating content that inspires, educates, and positively influences society, rather than contributing to misinformation, cyberbullying, or negative online trends.
“Our generation has the privilege of shaping conversations that can transform communities and inspire positive change. Every post, every video, and every message should reflect purpose, responsibility, and impact.”
The celebration also highlighted the immense opportunities available through social media in digital marketing, content creation, technology, e-commerce, public service, and youth development.
Participants were urged to leverage these platforms to showcase their talents, build sustainable careers, promote businesses, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
