The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the fallout from its primary election, describing the internal crisis as evidence of leadership failure and poor governance.
In a statement issued on Tueday, 9th of June, 2026, the Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary, Prince Dr. Christopher Odianarewo, said the public disagreements, accusations and social media exchanges among APC members reflected deep divisions within the ruling party.
According to him, the controversy surrounding Lagos Island Constituency II, where a social media publication by a group identified as “Lagos Island Voice” levelled several allegations against the lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Lanre Afinni, highlighted the extent of the party’s internal wrangling.
The publication reportedly accused the lawmaker of making derogatory remarks against political godfatherism in Lagos, damaging the mace room at the Lagos State House of Assembly, failing to sponsor any bill in eight years, neglecting constituency projects, and allegedly encouraging actions that heightened tensions on Lagos Island.
Odianarewo, however, said the authenticity of the allegations was not the central issue, arguing instead that the fact that APC members were publicly making such accusations against one another underscored the level of discord within the party.
He maintained that while Nigerians continue to face economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity and the rising cost of living, leaders of the ruling party have remained preoccupied with internal political battles.
The PDP spokesman further stated that the APC-led Federal Government and the Lagos State Government should concentrate on addressing the country’s challenges rather than seeking public sympathy over disputes arising from their party’s primary election.
He argued that the ongoing exchanges among APC members were not the handiwork of the opposition but a reflection of disagreements within the ruling party itself.
“A party that cannot manage its own internal affairs cannot convincingly claim to be capable of managing the affairs of a state or a nation,” the statement read.
The PDP called for improved governance, insisting that both Lagos State and Nigeria deserve leadership focused on the welfare of the people rather than internal political conflicts.
No official response had been issued by the APC or the individuals mentioned in the statement as of the time of filing this report.
