The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the purported suspension of elder statesman Olabode George and other party leaders as null, void and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary, Prince Dr. Christopher Odianarewo, the party said the individuals behind the announcement lacked constitutional authority and were unknown to the authentic leadership structure of the party in the state.
The statement, released on behalf of the faction led by Barrister Amos Fawole, dismissed the alleged suspension as a “laughable, baseless and mischievous” attempt to create confusion within the opposition party.
According to the party, the so-called disciplinary committee responsible for the announcement is not recognised by the PDP and has no legal or constitutional mandate to sanction any member.
The Lagos PDP further alleged that those behind the move were individuals seeking relevance and patronage from the ruling party, accusing them of working to discredit respected leaders who have contributed significantly to the growth and survival of the PDP in Lagos State and across the country.
The party also pointed to what it described as inconsistencies in the purported suspension list, noting that some of the persons named were no longer members of the PDP. It argued that the development exposed the action as poorly coordinated and lacking credibility.
“The statement is a political comedy orchestrated by individuals suffering from irrelevance and desperate for public attention,” the party said.
Reaffirming its commitment to constitutional order, due process and internal democracy, the Lagos PDP maintained that no self-appointed group could arrogate powers not granted by the party’s constitution.
The party urged members of the public, party faithful and the media to disregard the suspension announcement, insisting that it was fraudulent and should be treated with contempt.
It also reiterated its resolve to strengthen the opposition in Lagos State, declaring that no amount of intimidation, propaganda or political blackmail would weaken the party or diminish the standing of its leaders.
The statement concluded by affirming that the PDP remains united and focused on providing an alternative platform for Nigerians amid growing concerns over governance and economic hardship.
