The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has stepped up environmental sanitation operations along the Asaba–Ibusa Expressway in preparation for the Delta State Economic Summit, scheduled to hold from Sunday, August 2 to Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The ongoing exercise, which commenced on Thursday, is designed to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for delegates, investors, and other visitors expected at the summit. Activities include the desilting of sand from the tarred road surface, removal of illegal refuse dumps, sweeping, litter collection, and the evacuation of all waste and debris to government-approved disposal sites.
As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and public engagement, the Agency also carried out a sensitisation programme at the Koka Interchange. During the exercise, residents, traders, and road users were educated on the importance of proper waste management practices and the need to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
Speaking during the monitoring exercise, the Director General of DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to ensuring that Asaba remains clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing, particularly as the state prepares to host the forthcoming economic summit.
Mr. Ukah personally supervised the ongoing sanitation activities alongside the Agency’s Manager of Administration, Mr. Vincent Okwofadgeke, while the Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, provided continuous oversight of field operations to ensure strict adherence to environmental standards.
The sensitisation programme was facilitated by the Agency’s Manager of Corporate Affairs, Ms. Ngozi Peters, who engaged residents and business operators on the importance of supporting government initiatives by maintaining clean surroundings and avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal.
The Agency reiterated that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility and urged residents to sustain proper sanitation practices beyond the summit period in order to preserve the aesthetic appeal and environmental integrity of the state capital.
