Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has commissioned the newly constructed administrative office complex and access road at the Oshimili South Local Government Secretariat, describing the projects as important investments in efficient grassroots administration and improved service delivery.
The commissioning ceremony, which attracted government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, civil servants and residents, marked a major milestone in the development of the local government area.
Representing Governor Oborevwori at the event, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Monday Onyeme, commended the Oshimili South Local Government Council for successfully completing the projects, noting that functional infrastructure remains critical to effective governance at the grassroots.
Onyeme said the new office complex would provide a more conducive working environment for civil servants, enhance productivity and improve the quality of services delivered to residents. He added that the newly constructed access road would improve connectivity to the secretariat, ease movement and address traffic challenges around the area.
He described Oshimili South as a strategic administrative and commercial centre and said the projects were consistent with the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to meaningful development under the MORE Agenda.
The Deputy Governor commended the council chairman, contractors, engineers and other stakeholders involved in the projects, urging staff and residents to protect and properly maintain the facilities.
He stressed that the infrastructure belongs to the people and should be preserved to serve present and future generations.
The Asagba of Asaba, Obi Professor Chike Edozie, also congratulated the council chairman, High Chief Kelvin Ezenyili, on the commissioning of the projects.
The traditional ruler described the new secretariat complex as a significant development that would bring government closer to the people, adding that its accommodation of various government agencies would help address office-space challenges and strengthen their operations in Asaba.
Obi Edozie also commended the decision to name the complex after Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, describing it as recognition of the Governor’s developmental contributions to Delta State.
Earlier, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, High Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyilii, said the completion and commissioning of the secretariat complex and access road formed part of his administration’s commitment to providing durable infrastructure and improving the welfare of residents.
Presenting his two-year scorecard, Ezenyili listed several projects executed by his administration, including the Oko Event Centre, Oko Modern Foodstuff Market, Local Government Plaza at the former Ogbeogonogo Market, the new administrative secretariat complex and an ultra-modern shopping plaza.
Other achievements highlighted by the chairman included the provision of a 150KVA generator for the secretariat, a 500KVA transformer for residents of Ukulele Street, acquisition of three acres of land for a public-private partnership cemetery and sponsorship of the Oko football competition.
He further disclosed that the council had strengthened grassroots security through an emergency security shortcode, 7745, provision of Sienna buses and motorcycles to security personnel, and inauguration of the Oko and Asaba vigilante groups.
According to him, Phase Two of the council’s digital skills acquisition and empowerment programme is also ongoing across the 11 wards, with training in web development, 3D animation, motion graphics, video and graphic design, digital marketing, artificial intelligence, drone operations and movie production, among others.
He said 46 free Apple MacBook laptops had been provided to interns, while telecommunications masts were being constructed in Oko and Alao to improve connectivity.
Ezenyili emphasised that the responsibility of the council did not end with the construction of projects, but also included ensuring their proper maintenance and effective utilisation.
He appealed to staff, residents and users of the facilities to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and neglect, while urging personnel in the new secretariat to uphold professionalism, accountability, discipline, integrity and dedication.
The chairman expressed appreciation to the legislative council, management and staff, contractors, consultants, traditional and community leaders, political stakeholders and residents for their support toward the successful completion of the projects.
The commissioning ceremony ended with goodwill messages from dignitaries, who praised the council chairman for the scale of infrastructure development in Oshimili South and urged residents to continue supporting the administration at the state and federal levels.
