The Vice Chairperson of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Mrs. Chinye Hobobo Uso, has distributed modern medical equipment to eight primary healthcare centres across the local government area as part of her 2026 constituency project aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

The beneficiary health facilities include Umuaji Primary Health Care Centre, Model Primary Health Care Centre, Cable Point Primary Health Care Centre, Umuonaje Primary Health Care Centre, Anwai Primary Health Care Centre, Okwe Primary Health Care Centre, Ogbele Primary Health Care Centre and Akwaebunu Primary Health Care Centre.

Speaking during the official handover of the equipment, Hon. Hobobo Uso, popularly known as Mama West, said the intervention followed a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of primary healthcare centres in Oshimili South, which revealed the urgent need for infrastructural rehabilitation and the provision of essential medical equipment.

She explained that the initiative, which also includes the ongoing renovation of selected primary healthcare centres, is designed to improve the operational capacity of health facilities and enhance access to quality healthcare services for residents.

According to her, the medical equipment supplied includes hospital beds, diagnostic equipment, maternal and reproductive health equipment, treatment and support equipment, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers.

Hon. Hobobo Uso stressed that primary healthcare remains the foundation of a functional healthcare system, serving as the first point of contact for most residents while promoting disease prevention, continuous care and improved community well-being.

She noted that revitalising primary healthcare centres is essential because they provide over 70 per cent of the healthcare services required by individuals throughout their lifetime.

The Vice Chairperson also highlighted the commitment of the Delta State Government under Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to improving access to healthcare through the state’s subsidised health insurance scheme, which allows residents to access primary and secondary healthcare services for an annual premium of N7,000.

She disclosed that while the distribution of medical equipment to the beneficiary facilities is ongoing, renovation works have already commenced in some of the primary healthcare centres across the local government area.

Hon. Hobobo Uso expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for providing opportunities that bring the dividends of democracy closer to the people through impactful constituency projects.
She also commended Ezenyili Kelvin for his unwavering support, encouragement and guidance, noting that his contributions played a significant role in the successful execution of the project.

Medical Officers-in-Charge of the beneficiary health facilities expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing the equipment as timely and capable of improving service delivery, maternal and child healthcare, and overall patient care.
Residents of Oshimili South are expected to benefit from enhanced healthcare services following the completion of the ongoing renovation works and the installation of the newly distributed medical equipment in the eight primary healthcare centres.
