As the world commemorates the International Day of the African Child, renowned youth advocate, development champion Amb. Onyedikachi Micheal Odogwu, has called for renewed commitment towards the education, protection, and empowerment of children across Africa.
Speaking to the media in commemoration of the annual observance, Amb. Odogwu emphasized the importance of investing in children as the foundation for sustainable development and a prosperous future for the continent.
He noted that the International Day of the African Child serves as a reminder of the courage and sacrifices of the children of Soweto, South Africa, who stood for their right to quality education in 1976.
According to him, every African child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, protection from abuse, and equal opportunities to achieve their full potential.
“The future of Africa lies in the hands of our children. We must collectively create an environment where every child can learn, grow, dream, and succeed,” he stated.
The special assistant to the Governor on youth development further urged governments, development partners, community leaders, parents, and stakeholders to strengthen policies and initiatives that promote child welfare and youth development.
The celebration also highlighted the need for greater community involvement in supporting vulnerable children and creating opportunities that enable them to thrive.
