Presidential hopeful of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has stressed the need for decisive leadership and strong political will in tackling terrorism and insecurity affecting schools across Nigeria.
Obi made the remarks on Thursday during a visit to Practicing Nursery and Primary School in Agulu, where he reiterated his commitment to improving the nation’s education sector.
Speaking on the recent insecurity challenges facing schools, including the reported kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, Obi said the safety of schools and communities can only be guaranteed through firm and determined action by government authorities.
According to him, quality education remains essential to national growth and development, noting that no meaningful progress can be achieved in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
“We do not only need to secure our schools from insecurity but also the society, and this can be achieved through decisiveness,” Obi stated.
The former governor of Anambra State added that during his time in office, proactive measures and strong leadership helped maintain safety and stability in the state, emphasizing that terrorism can be defeated with commitment and political will.
