… Ejinyere says Hausa/Fulani leaders in Oil City must hear this
By Media Dept of WUEDA
Owing to reports of incessant stealing of Govt property in parts of the oil Metropolis, the Director General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt Agency, (WUEDA), Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere organized a surveillance group to watch over Govt. sign posts forbidding the dumping of refuse in specific areas of the City.
A few weeks after the group started work, a scavenger suspected to be Hausa has been caught trying to sell the Govt sign posts at Ekpan. The attention of the surveillance group was drawn to the theft through a public alarm raised at the point of sale.
When asked why he stole the Govt sign posts, the suspect said he wanted to sell them as scraps which he called damaged iron, adding that he had been doing the business for long.
After he was rescued from being beaten up by an irate mob, the suspect was taken to his “iron damage” union which agreed to replace the stollen sign posts that he had squeezed for sale as condemned iron.
The WUEDA DG who was shocked by the blatant disregard for Govt’s property by the suspect, condemned the act in its entirety, and promised to table the issue before the leadership of Hausa/Fulani Community in the Agency’s mandate areas, to forestall a reoccurrence.
Prince Ejinyere said the Oborevwori Govt would not condone the vandalism of any of its property which were provided in the interest of Deltans, in tandem with the More Agenda of his administration.
He wondered why a person in his senses should steal and sell or buy sign posts that were publicly placed to warn people to stop indiscriminate dumping of wastes in the City.
For some time now, youths suspected to be Hausa/Fulani had been apprehended in different parts of the Agency’s mandate areas stealing useful utensils, generators, iron rods and even kidnapping little babies from quiet compounds.
Vigilant residents had raised alarms to draw attention of security agents and vigilante groups to such cases, which most times led to the arrest of such suspects. Hon. Prince Ejinyere said this act must stop as part of Govt’s efforts towards restoring the lost glory of the Oil City.
