Minister of Youth and Sports Development Chief Sunday Dare has envisaged a bright future for Nigeria canoeist and kayaking athletes as the 2024 Olympics games Paris in France.
Chief Dare gave the predictions while speaking with Journalists shortly after watching the day 5 of the canoeing event, the Grand hotel, Asaba.
He said the commitment of Nigerian Olympian Esther Toko and Ayomid Powei in the National Sports Festival was a demonstration of hope for Nigeria.
The Minister noted that the games could give Nigeria gold medal in the next Olympics games, adding that with all round approach of nurturing talents and sports development that the future was bright for the country.
Chief Dare asserted that with what he had seen so far in the ongoing National Sports Festival that Nigeria would increase the number of sports that would take part in the Olympics, explaining that Nigeria went to the last Olympics with nine sports.
Host Delta State are currently leading the medal table with 242 medals, 129 gold, 68 silver, 45 bronze, Bayelsa are on second 90 medals 31 gold, 21 silver, 38 bronze followed by Edo on 24 gold, 35 silver, 62 bronze, Oyo state on 4th 14 gold, 18 silver, bronze.
Borno, Gombe Zamfare, Adamawa, Sokoto , Taraba and Cross River are among the state yet to record a single with only bronze and silver for them.
