The Councillor representing Ward 18 in the Aniocha South Legislative Arm, Hon. Cecilia Okpu, has officially commissioned and handed over a newly completed borehole facility to the Ubulu-Uno Development Association (UUDA), describing the project as a direct response to one of the community’s most pressing needs.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Okpu emphasized that the project was her 2025 constituency project, conceived following extensive consultations with community leaders who identified access to clean water, particularly during the dry season, as a major challenge facing residents.

According to her, “During our consultations, our leaders made it clear that access to clean water, especially in the dry season, is one of our most urgent needs. I therefore proposed the construction of a borehole as my constituency project.”

She disclosed that upon discovering that the funds allocated for the project were insufficient to deliver a standard facility, she sought additional support to ensure the project met the expectations of the people.

Hon. Okpu expressed profound gratitude to the Chief Executive Officer of Ayinson Global Limited, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Okpu, for providing financial assistance that made the project a reality.

She revealed that Mr. Okpu contributed N12.745 million towards the execution of the borehole project, leading to the successful completion of a modern facility equipped with six storage tanks.

“Through his generous support of N12,745,000, the borehole project was fully executed. Today, to the glory of God, we stand before a completed facility with six storage tanks, ready to serve our people,” she stated.

The councillor further highlighted Mr. Okpu’s previous intervention in the community, noting that he independently supported her pet project of revitalizing the Ubulu-Uno Abuedo Road shortly after her inauguration in 2024.

She explained that the road project, which had been abandoned for over a decade, received a financial intervention of N7.35 million from the Ayinson Global Limited boss, helping to restore access and improve mobility within the community.

Hon. Okpu also commended the Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwuweike, for initiating the constituency project scheme for councillors, which she said has enabled elected representatives to directly address the needs of their constituents.

She equally appreciated community leaders and the sons and daughters of Ubulu-Uno for their guidance, cooperation and unwavering support throughout the implementation of both projects.

Describing the borehole and road projects as more than mere infrastructure, the Ward 18 representative stressed that they are essential interventions capable of transforming lives and improving the well-being of residents.

“These projects are more than infrastructure; they are lifelines. May the borehole bring relief, health and dignity, and may the road open new opportunities for commerce and connection in Ubulu-Uno,” she said.

While commending the Local Government Chairman for the opportunity given to the Councillor, to deliver constituency project, the Obi of Ubulu-Uno Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr Kikachukwu Agbogidi, expressed satisfaction in Hon Okpu’s effective representation within a short while in office.

In his remark, the Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwuweike who was represented by his Vice, Hon. Patricia Adolue applauded the people of the community for finding the Councillor worthy of representing them, adding that her effort towards sourcing for fund for the actualisation of the project, tells a lot about her interest for the well-being of her constituents.

On hIs part, the President-General of UUDA, Prof. Jiff Mokobia assured the people of proper maintenance and management of the borehole tap for the benefit of present and future generations.

Speaking with Journalist shortly after the event, the Onishe of Ubulu Unor, Chief Dr. Chris Agbobu appreciated the Councillor for her ameliorating one of the challenges of the Ubulu Unor people and prayed for greater height in her political career.

Highlight of the event was the cutting of tape and formal handover of the borehole facility to the Ubulu-Uno Development Association (UUDA).

The event witness the presence of the Chairman Governing Board of Ogwashi uku Polytechnic, Hon Pastor Paul Adingwupu; the Onishe of Ubulu Unor, Chief Dr. Chris Agbobu; community leaders, residents, government officials and stakeholders who lauded the initiative as a significant contribution towards improving access to potable water and enhancing infrastructure development in the community.
