The Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Patrick Ukah, has embarked on an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of flood control measures at Ogbeilo/Ugbomanta Streets with a discharge drain through Ogbeogonogo Market to Otuogwu Bay, Asaba, to ascertain the level of work done and assess progress on the project.

The flood control project, regarded as one of the most critical infrastructure interventions within the Capital Territory, is aimed at addressing the persistent flooding challenges experienced in Ogbeilo, Ogbeogonogo and surrounding areas, particularly during the rainy season.

Speaking during the inspection, Ukah noted that the project presented enormous challenges due to its scope and technical demands, but expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and progress achieved so far.

He explained that the discharge drain, which runs through the Ogbeogonogo Market corridor to Otuogwu Bay, would significantly improve stormwater management, reduce flooding, protect lives and property, and enhance environmental sanitation within the state capital.

The Director General stated that appropriate safety measures would be implemented upon completion of the project, including the installation of barricades and the placement of caution tapes around deep manholes to prevent accidents and discourage indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the drainage system.

Ukah also inspected the ongoing construction of the Ogbeogonogo Modern Market, which he said would boost commercial activities, improve access within the market environment and provide a more organized trading space for business owners.

He further revealed that upon completion of the shops currently under construction, traders operating along the streets would be relocated into the market stores to restore orderliness and ensure free vehicular and pedestrian movement within the area.

As part of the inspection tour, the DSCTDA boss visited other major infrastructure projects across the Capital Territory, including the construction of Ogochukwu Mowers/Prince Nwanne Street and Bepof Lane, Asaba; the completed roads within Olikili Layout comprising Mike Arinze Street, Ezeweani Way, Tony Bakaso Street, Trust in God Lane and Emma Obiokolo Street with a spur to Two Close off Ibusa Road; the construction of Chris Abudei Street/Ogbueshi M. Onochie Street, Asaba; and the reconstruction of Asaba Palace Road off Nnebisi Road by UBA, Phase II.

He commended the contractors handling the various projects for their commitment and urged them to maintain the required standards and timelines for delivery.

Ukah reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State Government, under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to providing sustainable infrastructure that will improve the quality of life of residents and support economic growth in line with the MORE Agenda.
