The House of Representatives candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Honourable Barrister Gloria Nkadi Odibei, has called on political leaders to remain accountable to the people and uphold the ideals of democracy as Nigerians commemorate the 2026 Democracy Day.

In her June 12 message, Odibei described Democracy Day as a historic reminder of the sacrifices made by heroes of democracy to secure the nation’s democratic freedom, stressing that the voice of the people must always remain paramount in governance.

She paid glowing tribute to the late Chief MKO Abiola, describing him as a symbol of hope, justice and the triumph of the people’s will. According to her, Abiola’s legacy serves as a constant reminder that leadership is a sacred trust bestowed by the people and must always be exercised in their best interest.

The ADC candidate noted that for the people of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, June 12 represents an opportunity to embrace accountable leadership, community development, youth empowerment and inclusive governance.

She emphasized that democracy delivers its greatest dividends when leaders remain accessible, responsive and committed to addressing the needs and aspirations of the people.

Odibei further urged residents of the constituency to honour the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes by working together to build a constituency where every community matters, every voice is heard and every citizen has the opportunity to prosper.

She expressed optimism that through collective commitment and responsible leadership, Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency and Nigeria would achieve a brighter and more prosperous future.
