Connecting the Creeks: Oborevwori Delivers Strategic 31-Kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road

By Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq

On a humid Tuesday of 13th March in Delta State’s riverine belt, jubilation rippled through communities long defined by isolation. For many residents, the inauguration of the 31-kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road was more than a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, it was a long awaited reconnection to opportunity, movement, and visibility.

At the centre of the moment stood Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who used the occasion to frame the project as part of a broader mission: rewriting the development story of Delta’s riverine communities. For decades, these areas crisscrossed by creeks and defined by difficult terrain have struggled with poor infrastructure, limiting economic growth and access to essential services.

“We are resolved to rewrite the story of our riverine communities,” the governor declared, his words echoing across a crowd of residents, political leaders, and traditional rulers who had gathered to witness what many described as a historic intervention.

A Road Through the Swamp

Stretching across multiple local government areas, including Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Patani, Burutu, and Bomadi, the newly reconstructed road is not just long in distance but ambitious in design. Built to withstand the challenges of swampy terrain, the project required extensive engineering: sand filling, soil stabilization, reinforced concrete structures, embankment protection, and asphalt surfacing.

The road varies in width from 6.5 to 10.3 metres, with hard shoulders in select sections, features that signal durability and modern planning in a region where roads often succumb to the elements.

For commuters and traders, the transformation is immediate. What was once a slow, risky journey marked by potholes and waterlogged paths is now a smoother, faster corridor linking communities and markets.

Beyond its physical structure, the road represents an economic lifeline. Improved connectivity is expected to reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, and open new channels for trade. Farmers can move produce more efficiently, businesses can expand their reach, and residents can access healthcare and education with fewer obstacles.

The governor Oborevwori emphasized that infrastructure like this is central to economic growth, connecting rural producers to urban markets and encouraging investment in previously neglected areas. Local leaders echoed this sentiment.

Hon. Dagidi Andaye, Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council, described the project as unprecedented in recent memory. According to him, the area had not seen such significant infrastructure in over 16 years, a gap that underscores the scale of neglect residents have endured.

While the Ohoror–Bomadi Road took centre stage, it is part of a wider development agenda. Governor Oborevwori highlighted ongoing and completed projects spanning roads, bridges, education, and power, all anchored on his administration’s MORE Agenda focused on fairness, justice, and equity.

He revealed that the State Executive Council recently approved projects worth over N400 billion across key sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, power, judiciary, and security. In the power sector, efforts are underway to extend transmission lines and install transformers, reconnecting communities that have been without electricity for over a decade. Security, too, is on the agenda, with plans to establish police divisions across all 25 local government areas and a Special Protection Base to enhance safety.

For residents, the impact of the road is already tangible. Community leaders such as Nicholas Mutu and James Manager joined others in praising the governor’s efforts, noting that the project has eased long-standing hardships caused by poor access and high transportation costs.

Traditional ruler, HRM Pere Luke Kalalanama and other stakeholders described the road as a symbol of inclusion, evidence that riverine communities are no longer being left behind. Their endorsements also carried a political undertone, with assurances of continued support for the governor and Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

As the crowd dispersed and vehicles began to ply the new road, a sense of cautious optimism lingered. For years, development in Delta’s riverine areas has been more promise than reality. Now, with a tangible project cutting through the swamp, many are hopeful that this marks a genuine turning point.

The newly commissioned 31-Kilometre Ohoror-Bomadi Road stands as a powerful symbol, a stretch of asphalt binding together communities and perhaps, at last, bridging the gap between neglect and progress.

The Writer, Dr (Barr) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, is the Director General, Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Governor’s Office Asaba.

Oborevwori Inaugurates 31 kilometres Ohoror-Bomadi Road Amidst Praises

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that his administration is deliberately rewriting the development story of riverine communities through massive infrastructure investments and people-focused projects, policies, and programmes.

The Governor made the assertion during the commissioning of the reconstructed 31-kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road, a strategic corridor linking Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Patani, Burutu, Bomadi and Burutu Local Government Areas.

Oborevwori described the project as a major milestone in his administration’s resolve to ensure equitable development across all parts of the state, particularly the historically underserved riverine areas.

“We are resolved to rewrite the story of our riverine communities. Our administration is committed to ensuring that sustainable development gets to every part of the state, regardless of terrain or location,” he insisted.

He noted that the road project would significantly boost socio-economic activities in the affected communities by improving connectivity, facilitating trade, and enhancing access to essential services.

According to him, the project will positively impact at least five local government areas, opening up economic opportunities and reducing travel time across the region.

The Governor emphasized that infrastructure development remains a critical driver of economic growth, noting that improved road networks would connect farmers to markets, attract investments and strengthen rural-urban integration.

Providing details of the project, Oborevwori explained that the scope of work included extensive engineering interventions tailored to the swampy terrain, such as sand filling, soil stabilization, concrete reinforcement, embankment protection and asphalt surfacing. He added that the road spans widths of between 6.5 and 10.3 metres, with hard shoulders in some sections.

He also highlighted other ongoing and completed projects across the state, including roads, bridges and educational infrastructure, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering the MORE Agenda anchored on fairness, justice and equity.

Oborevwori disclosed that the State Executive Council recently approved projects worth over N400 billion across critical sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, power, judiciary and security.

On power supply, the Governor said his administration is taking proactive steps to address electricity challenges through policy reforms and infrastructure upgrades, including the extension of transmission lines and installation of transformers in previously underserved communities.

He revealed that some communities that had been without electricity for over a decade have now been reconnected to the national grid, improving living conditions and economic prospects.

The Governor also announced plans to strengthen security across the state, including the construction of police divisions in all 25 local government areas for State Police and a Special Protection Base to enhance safety.

Earlier, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the 31-kilometre road project traverses multiple communities and features modern engineering solutions designed to ensure durability in difficult terrain.

In his welcome address, Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, expressed appreciation to the Governor for what he described as a historic intervention, noting that the area had not witnessed such a project in over 16 years.

He said the road would drastically reduce accidents, improve livelihoods and ease the movement of people and goods across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the people, community leaders and stakeholders including, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, Senator James Manager, Hon. Oboro Preyor, HRM Pere Luke Kalalanama and 1st Vice Chairman of Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, and Mrs Flora Brisibo, commended the Governor for his inclusive governance style and commitment to development, assuring him and President Bola Tinubu of their continued support and massive votes in the 2027 elections.

They noted that the completion of the road has brought relief to residents, many of whom had suffered economic hardship due to poor access and high transportation costs.

The event drew a large crowd of residents, political leaders and traditional rulers, reflecting widespread appreciation for the project and its expected impact on the area.

DTSG To Complete Abandoned DELSU Senate Building

…Approves Hostels for Tertiary Institutions

The Delta State Government has approved the construction of male and female hostels across nine state-owned tertiary institutions as part of efforts to address accommodation challenges faced by students.

The State Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Professor Tonukari described the decision as a significant step forward for students and their parents, noting that the rising student population in the state’s tertiary institutions has made hostel accommodation a pressing need.

He said recent figures presented during the convocation ceremonies of the three newly established universities in the state showed that the three institutions alone currently have about 40,000 students.

According to him, the growing enrollment has placed enormous pressure on available accommodation facilities within the universities.

Tonukari noted that Delta State University, Abraka currently has more than 35,000 students, while its hostel facilities can only accommodate about 2,000 students, adding that the newer universities have even fewer hostel spaces, capable of housing only a few hundred students.

To address the challenge, the Executive Council approved the construction of two hostel blocks, one for male students and one for female students in each of the nine state owned tertiary institutions.

He said the initiative was part of Governor Oborevwori administration’s effort to significantly reduce accommodation shortages and improve the learning environment for students across the institutions.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the council also approved the reconstruction and completion of the abandoned Senate Building at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.

According to him, the project was originally awarded in 2010 but had remained uncompleted for several years before the latest intervention by the state government.

“Today, that building has been approved for reconstruction and completion, which is very good news for the university,” Tonukari said.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, assured that the Ministry of Housing would ensure effective supervision and timely delivery of the approved projects.

Angele assured that the ministry would work diligently to ensure that the projects are executed efficiently and delivered within schedule.

The approvals form part of the Delta State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure development across critical sectors, particularly in education.

He noted that the approval of the project will significantly improve accessibility, ease the movement of agricultural produce to markets, reduce transportation difficulties faced by residents, and stimulate economic growth in Ubulu-Unor and surrounding communities. He further emphasized that good road infrastructure remains a key driver of development and social integration.

2027: Oghenesivbe Predicts Tinubu, Oborevwori Victory

….Commends Ethiope East APC Chairman Iboyitete, Party Leaders

Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. (Barr.) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has once again expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, predicting a sweeping victory for both leaders in the 2027 general elections.

Oghenesivbe reaffirmed his prediction on Friday on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Chairman and Executive Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ward 6, Kokori, in Ethiope East Local Government Area.

According to him, the prevailing political climate in Nigeria, and particularly in Delta State suggests that President Tinubu remains the dominant force on the national stage.

“The political atmosphere clearly shows that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no visible contender capable of matching his popularity and track record in governance. This positions him strongly to secure victory not only in Delta State but across the country,” Oghenesivbe said.

He urged the newly inaugurated Ward Chairman, Pastor Sunday Agbogun, to lead with integrity and vision, emphasizing the need to strengthen unity among party leaders, stakeholders, and grassroots members.

“Ward 6 APC is on a path to excellence. The leadership must foster peace, cohesion, and collective commitment as the party prepares to decisively defeat opposition parties in the forthcoming elections,” he said.

Oghenesivbe further praised the achievements of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a policy framework already yielding measurable economic progress and positioning Nigeria for greater prosperity in the years ahead.

Turning to Delta State, he commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as “visionary leadership and massive infrastructure expansion,” noting that the administration’s projects have significantly improved economic opportunities and the overall wellbeing of citizens in less than three years in office.

The Bureau Chief expressed strong optimism that Governor Oborevwori would record a clean sweep across the state’s 25 local government areas in 2027, attributing this confidence to the widespread infrastructure and socioeconomic development projects currently underway across the three senatorial districts, as well as the state government’s decision to increase budgetary allocations to ₦7 billion for each LGA in the 2026 budget to support road construction, education, and healthcare development, separate from federal allocations.

He also commended the Ethiope East APC Chairman, Chief Midwest Iboyitete, for what he described as pragmatic and stabilizing leadership. “Under the leadership of Chief Iboyitete, the APC in Ethiope East has become stronger, more united, and more organized,” he said, applauding the timely inauguration of ward executives across the local government area.

He further thanked leaders and members of APC Ward 6 Kokori for their resilience, unity of purpose, and dedication to strengthening the party at the grassroots level. Special recognition was given to Chief James Omeru, whom Oghenesivbe praised for his recent empowerment initiatives.

According to him, Omeru has distributed over ₦50 million in support for youth and women within the last three weeks, describing the gesture as a significant contribution toward community development and party cohesion.

The Bureau Chief also acknowledged the contributions of several other party leaders, including Chief (Barr.) G. S. Avwunudiogba, Rt. Hon. Sunny Akpodiogaga Emeyese, Chief Faith Majemite, Chief Sunday Omovie, and Chief Sunday Umunade, among others.

He described them as “pillars of strength and stability” whose collective efforts continue to shape a stronger and more united APC in Ward 6 and beyond.

Amori Applauds Oborevwori’s Development Drive as Delta, NDDC, Chevron Move to Deliver Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Coastal Road

By Joelson Wilson

The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori, has commended the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for what he described as visionary leadership and an unwavering commitment to infrastructure development following renewed collaboration on the proposed Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and Bridges project.

Amori made the remarks while reacting to the meeting between the Delta State Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Chevron Nigeria Limited aimed at strengthening partnership for the construction of the strategic coastal road project in Delta State.

The proposed project, spanning about 70 kilometres with 29 bridges, is designed to link several riverine communities in Warri South and Warri South-West Local Government Areas, an area historically challenged by poor road access due to the difficult terrain of creeks, mangrove swamps and waterways that characterize the Niger Delta region.

Speaking on the significance of the project, Amori said the initiative represents a bold step toward transforming the economic fortunes of riverine communities that have for decades remained largely isolated from the mainland.

According to him, the renewed commitment by stakeholders demonstrates the seriousness of the Oborevwori administration in addressing long-standing infrastructural gaps across the state.
“The proposed Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos road is a landmark project that will change the narrative of development in our riverine communities,” Amori said.
“For years, residents of these areas have relied almost entirely on water transportation to connect with the rest of the state. The challenges associated with that have slowed economic growth, limited access to essential services and made everyday life difficult for many of our people.”

He noted that the construction of the road would not only improve connectivity but would also unlock vast economic opportunities in the coastal corridor.
“This project will stimulate commerce, attract investment and open up the riverine axis for tourism, maritime activities and other productive ventures. It will also greatly enhance access to institutions such as the Nigerian Maritime University in Okerenkoko, which holds immense potential for the development of the maritime sector,” he added.

Amori further praised Governor Oborevwori’s governance approach, describing it as people-focused and driven by strategic partnerships aimed at accelerating development across Delta State.
“The governor has consistently demonstrated strong commitment to infrastructural development and inclusive governance. One of the defining features of his administration is the willingness to collaborate with critical stakeholders to deliver projects that directly impact the lives of the people,” Amori stated.

He emphasized that the partnership involving the NDDC and Chevron reflects the governor’s pragmatic approach to governance and his determination to ensure that major projects in the state are executed through cooperation and shared responsibility.
“Large-scale projects like this require collaboration, and the governor understands this perfectly. By bringing together the state government, federal intervention agencies and private sector partners, he is creating a development model that ensures sustainability and timely delivery,” he said.

The Chief Adviser also highlighted the broader developmental agenda of the Oborevwori administration, noting that several road projects, flyovers and critical infrastructure are currently being executed across the state as part of the governor’s drive to improve connectivity and boost economic productivity.

According to him, the coastal road project will complement these ongoing efforts by extending development to communities that have historically faced infrastructural neglect.
“This administration is determined to ensure that no part of Delta State is left behind. The riverine communities are an integral part of our state, and projects like this will bring them closer to the centre of economic activities,” Amori noted.

He expressed optimism that the collaboration between the Delta State Government, the NDDC and Chevron would fast-track the implementation of the project, describing it as a major milestone for the people of the coastal communities.
“This project will stand as a legacy of purposeful leadership and strategic partnership. When completed, it will serve generations of Deltans and significantly improve the quality of life for residents of the riverine areas,” Amori said.

The stakeholders have agreed to establish a joint technical committee comprising representatives of the Delta State Government, the NDDC and Chevron to review the existing design of the project, determine the current cost and address technical issues such as right-of-way, environmental considerations and geotechnical studies.

The committee is also expected to outline the financial contributions of each stakeholder ahead of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that will pave the way for the commencement of the project.

When completed, the Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and Bridges project is expected to become one of the most significant coastal infrastructure developments in the Niger Delta, linking communities, enhancing security and unlocking new economic opportunities across the region.
