A carnival-like atmosphere enveloped the premises of the Asaba International Airport Friday as Senator Ned Nwoko , representing Delta North at the National Assembly,returned to a rousing reception by thousands of jubilant supporters.
The crowd, drawn from across the nine local government areas of Delta North and comprising men, women, and youths, erupted in chants of solidarity and admiration, hailing the senator as their preferred candidate. Clad in his signature colourful Anioma traditional attire, Nwoko appeared visibly elated as the supporters danced to vibrant, sonorous Anioma rhythms, transforming the airport into a festive arena.
Addressing journalists shortly after his arrival, the lawmaker described the massive turnout as a reflection of his enduring bond with his constituents. “The crowd that receives me all the time is an appreciation of who I am,” he said.
In a firm political declaration, Nwoko announced his intention to seek re-election in 2027, reaffirming renewed commitment to representing the Anioma people in the Senate. “I will return to the Senate on behalf of the Anioma people of Delta North. I have performed well and consistently championed the Anioma cause at every level, speaking fearlessly for the people,” he stated.
He also reiterated his advocacy for the creation of Anioma State, expressing optimism that the long-standing demand would soon be realised. “Anioma State will be created, with Asaba as its capital. There will also be Delta State, with Warri or any other agreed location as capital,” he added.
Senator Nwoko, who was in company of former Deputy Senate president,Obaisi Ovie Omo -Agege, used the occasion to reaffirm his support for president Bola Tinubu, describing him as a leader committed to national development and expressing confidence in his re-election. “The President is my president. I supported him early, and he is doing very well nationally. He will be re-elected, and we are working together at every level,” Nwoko said.
Senator Nwoko also pledged continued partnership with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration in the development of the state
Outlining his development agenda for Anioma land, Nwoko highlighted key infrastructure and social investment priorities, including improved electricity supply through the Okpai power project, potable water schemes, and the completion of the Ogwashi-Uku Dam. “Anioma must have stable electricity,” he emphasised.
He further underscored the need for a coastal road network linking Asaba to Oko and Aboh, extending towards Patani, as well as ongoing efforts to upgrade the Federal College of Education (Technical) into a full-fledged university.
On youth empowerment, the senator pointed to his investments in education, noting that hundreds of students have benefited from scholarship schemes, particularly through his sports university initiative. “I currently have about 500 students on scholarship. That is one of the most impactful forms of empowerment,” he said.
While acknowledging the openness of the political space, Nwoko expressed confidence in his performance and grassroots support. “The race is open to all contenders, but I am confident of returning to the Senate in 2027 by the grace of God. The people are with me,” he added.
The reception and declaration signal an early intensification of political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections in Delta North, with supporters already rallying behind the senator’s anticipated return to the Red Chamber.
