Senator Ned Munir Nwoko has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the eradication of malaria as he participated in the 2026 World Malaria Day Roadwalk and Special Briefing organized by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Nigeria in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme.

The event, themed “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must,” brought together key stakeholders, including the Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako.

In his remarks, Senator Nwoko clarified that his drive is not a “passion for malaria,” but a firm mission to eliminate the disease entirely. He underscored the widespread impact of malaria, noting that it affects individuals across all social classes, including himself.

Describing malaria eradication as both urgent and achievable, the Senator emphasized that several countries have successfully eliminated the disease, urging Nigeria to adopt a more coordinated, well-funded, and aggressive national strategy similar to the global response seen during COVID-19.

He highlighted his longstanding advocacy efforts through the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation, including investments in vaccine research, environmental management, and fumigation initiatives. While acknowledging progress such as the RTS malaria vaccine, he stressed that malaria continues to claim lives, particularly in rural communities.

Central to his address was the proposed establishment of a National Malaria Eradication Agency. Senator Nwoko revealed that the bill, currently at an advanced stage in the National Assembly, seeks to create a specialized and coordinated body under the supervision of the Ministry of Health to drive nationwide eradication efforts.

Expressing optimism, he stated that with proper planning, collaboration, and sustained funding, Nigeria can eliminate malaria within the next decade.

Senator Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to partnerships and continued support for all stakeholders working towards a malaria-free Nigeria.
